_MG_1313Margaret Stephen

Our Number One employee. Margaret makes and bakes all of our products to perfection. She also packs and labels them, makes up orders for our stockists, helps in the Castle when we have guests, and is absolutely amazing all round, really.

The Stephen family

Kincardine Kitchen’s sole employee Margaret Stephen has lived a few yards from the Castle for virtually her entire life. When she was a wee girl her father was Head Gardener here, so she and her siblings grew up with the garden and the grounds as their playing field. When she got married to her husband Leslie, also a gardener, she moved a few miles away for a year or two, but returned to the house she was brought up in after her father’s death in 1960, whereupon Leslie became Head Gardener. We have had the privilege of knowing and employing four generations of this remarkable family.

Nicky Bradfordnicky

The great thing about having a business with only two people in it is that one person does all the things that the other person doesn’t do! So that is where I come in. I source most of the ingredients and packaging, deliver the goods to our stockists in our little electric van (how green is that – it costs less than £1 to charge it up, and zero emissions!), and usually help quite a bit with making the preserves and jams. Oh, and I have to check the quality of the baking every coffee time, which is a real hardship, as you’d imagine! And believe it or not, I still absolutely love every single mouthful, even after years of tasting.
